| AMSTERDAM |

Hey gals I recently went to Amsterdam for a short break with my boyfriend. It was amazing to finally relax after a crazy start to my final year of university. This post will hopefully be informative and helpful for any of you gals that want to explore this cool and charismatic city.

Before we set off for Amsterdam I done my research into what I wanted to see and do. I also swear by using the travel site https://www.ebookers.ie
They offer great deals on combo packages (Flights and accommodation)
We have booked numerous trips with the site and it is amazing for checking ratings and reviews of hotels while also booking your trip for an affordable price.

I recommend doing this before any trip if you are like me and need to know what and where to go when exploring a new area of Europe. I looked into different food places, landmarks and areas in Amsterdam and there is so many to choose from especially when it comes to food. Endless options.

Me and my boyfriend stayed in Jordaan, a cultural vintage vibe area of Amsterdam. It wasn't too far from Dam Square (10 mins) and this part felt very community based and comfortable which is important for me when staying in cities. We stayed in The Melrose Hotel for 3 nights The Melrose- it is modern and ideal for city breaks. Everything we needed and more.

We had a couple of places in mind and booked before going- I decided to book the Anne Frank House in advance from reading reviews about long queues if you book on the day.

Anne Frank House is a must see when you are in Amsterdam, I have a massive interest in the history of World War 2 and I always wanted to go. The tour was out of this world and I was fascinated with the Story of Anne Frank and the struggles of the Annexe. Beware  if you don't like heights because in order to access the Annexe you will need to climb steep stairs but all round it was a positive historical experience. (Price: 10 euro)

I underestimated the amount of walking you would have to do in this city. I am not active at all. This trip opened my eyes to how unfit I am. In Amsterdam, I didn't mind the walk and I started to like the idea of strolling around the city. There is so much to see in every corner of the city it would be hard not to enjoy.

We walked over 49km in the space of 4 days which I was extremely surprised and proud of. Not happy about the leg pains though ew.

Ice Bar
We also bought tickets to spend time in the famous Ice Bar in Amsterdam. A must do in the evening time- well that's when we thought it would be the best time just before dinner. The tickets are 26.50 euro- sound quite expensive but this include: 3 drinks, admission and a photo. Reasonable for what you receive and something different to do than just siting in your usual bar or restaurant.

FOOD
Ok so I never like to admit it but I am quite a fussy when it comes to eating in different parts of the world. I sound so annoying soz. Amsterdam had some of the most amazing food ever and I tried to be a bit more adventurous with my food choices. baby steps.

They do breakfast right.

When in Amsterdam you need to try a variety of their pancakes-
We were so impressed and don't worry they will fill you for most of the day.

The Breakfast Club
Everyone has to know about this place. It is unbelievably quirky and is a must when exploring places for Breakfast in Amsterdam. Options for days everything from Pancakes to eggs done your way.
Breakfast can be pricey but worth it.

Pancakes Amsterdam
Voted the 'Best Pancakes in Amsterdam'
Amazing, Amazing.
Staff are welcoming and service was really good. It was extremely close to where we stayed which was also a big bonus.

Food Hallen
Based in a old tram station, it covered many food destinations from Mexican to Indian.
We loved it that much we went there twice. Worth the walk and try when in Amsterdam.
Me and Eoghan tried a few different dishes from a couple of food stalls.
It was also a nice place to chill and have a few drinks.

Lunch and Dinner- Every kind of cuisine can be found in the city of Amsterdam.
It is a good spot for all kind of tastes.
Try the Churro's when you are there, omg. Melt in your mouth.

Outfits
It was freezing so my daily outfit consisted of layers upon layers of clothes.
If you are going in January, I would advise to bring a cosy jacket and boots. The necessities for this trip.

I would highly recommend taking a trip to this wonderful city filled with culture, cool scenery and an amazing atmosphere to suit all kinds of tourists. I will definitely be back in the future to explore the city during the summer months. I hope this post was beneficial to anyone thinking of heading to Amsterdam. For me, one of the best trips in Europe so far.
